International Tourism Recovers

International tourism recovers
Economy - Tuesday, November 9, 2010 (12:53 hrs)

During January and August arrivals worldwide grew to 642 million: WTO (Photo: Reuters)

The online Financial

Mexico, November 9 until August .- The results show that international tourism is still recovering from the 4.2% decline experienced last year under the impact of economic crisis. In the first eight months of this year, the number of international tourist arrivals exceeded the peak reached during the same period the year before the crisis, 2008. According to the latest issue of the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, January-August 2010 arrivals worldwide reached 642 million, about 40 million more than in the same months in 2009 (+7%) and 1 million more than in the same period in 2008, the record year. Based on current trends, it is expected that international tourist arrivals will increase in the order of 5% or 6% during the whole year. In 2011, growth is expected to continue at a slower pace, around a long-term average of 4%.

Emerging destinations continue to lead growth, while Europe will recover more slowly.

Worldwide, international tourist arrivals increased by 7% in the first eight months of 2010 compared to same period in 2009. The results are positive in all regions of the planet. Emerging economies, however, they fell to the head, an increase of 8% in August, compared to 5% in advanced economies

July and August, the traditional high season in the northern hemisphere, clearly beat the record, contabilizadno respectively 112 and 108 million international arrivals. These 220 million represents an increase of 8 million over the arrivals of the peak year, 2008, and 12 million more if the figure is compared with the year of crisis, 2009. The results were outstanding in March (+9%), May (+11%) and June (+9%), contrasting sharply with the negative trends of the same months last year. April yielded more modest results (+2%), after the close of European airspace due to the ash cloud caused by the Icelandic volcano.
Although the recovery is still slow in some parts of Europe and America, many destinations and are showing real growth and are hitting new records. Asia and the Pacific has once again demonstrated their resilience and strong resilience. The region was caught very soon and so suddenly during the economic crisis, but it was also the first to show signs of recovery and ended up throwing a staggering 14% increase in international arrivals in August 2010. Compared with 2008, before the crisis, the region has already won an additional 10 million international tourist arrivals. Most destinations have registered growth rates in double digits, many even over 20%.

Growth was also notable in the Middle East (+16%), albeit from a very depressed in the first eight months of 2009. Africa (+9%), the only region that showed signs of growth in 2009, kept the momentum, aided also by the publicity given the World Cup by FIFA, was held in South Africa.

In the Americas (+8%), growth has been strong in North America and Central America (+9% each). South America (+7%) goes hand in hand than the global average, while the Caribbean (+3%) showed a slower growth rate.

Europe (+3%) is recovering more slowly, due to its uneven economic recovery and the impact of volcanic ash cloud in April. However, most locations reported positive figures for the period May to August, particularly in Western Europe (+4%), Central and Eastern Europe (+4%) and in southern and Mediterranean (+2%) . Northern Europe (-3%) is the only subregion in the world that continues to have negative results, bringing down the average for the region.

A higher than expected growth confirms the strength of the tourism sector
As on previous occasions, when there were the attacks of September 11 in 2001 and the SARS outbreak in 2003, tourism has once again confirmed its excellent resilience. After a decline of 4% in international tourist arrivals in 2009, the sector is showing real growth and is expected to beat its previous record for the end of 2010.

"These findings reinforce the message that we have been insisting since the outbreak of the global crisis in late 2008, tourism is one of the most dynamic economic sectors and a key engine for growth and creating a few jobs absolutely necessary, "said the Secretary-General Taleb Rifai, in presenting these figures during the WTO Ministerial Summit at World Travel Market in London (United Kingdom). "Tourism has been severely beaten by the global crisis, but less than other export sectors, and is currently recovering more quickly and more forcefully. We call on governments around the world and multilateral fora as the G-20, to give greater prominence to tourism in their agendas, as the industry can help achieve our common goals of ending the crisis , restore jobs and promote sustainable development, "he added.

As already underlined the WTO, in many advanced economies prevalent risk factors may adversely affect the pace of recovery, especially balance the budget constraints for public deficits in the main markets and the central problem of unemployment. Just recently, the International Labour Organization (ILO) warned that the crisis of employment will continue through 2015. The latest figures from the WTO point to tourism as one of the most promising sectors face the challenge of unemployment, taking into account that the creation of jobs in tourism tends to outperform the other sectors.
"Despite the demonstrated contribution of tourism to the economy," recalled Mr. Rifai, "has been a growing temptation to introduce or increase taxes on travel, especially air transport. These constraints seriously affect our ability to generate employment and stimulate economic growth, particularly through export earnings, which is crucial to achieve a steady economic recovery. "

Mazatlan Mexico Tourism Slows The Global Crisis

Mazatlán tourism slows the global crisis
Written by Real eStrategy 7 Tourist Market, News, Hospitality Industry November 10, 2010 In the past six years, Mazatlán has been the place that has attracted tourism investment in Sinaloa, with the relaunch of the Marina Mazatlan, the boom in real estate development and the confidence generated for the installation of new hotels. However, the global financial crisis, which exploded in September 2008, had its impact one year later, when investors decided to remain cautious and wait for better times to promote the projects that were in the pipeline. Besides this, the crisis in the airline industry also slowed the launch of Mazatlan, since not only lost flight after departure of the airline market as Alma de Mexico, or the suspension of routes such as Delta or Continental, but efforts were not sufficient to replenish the losses.

Today, Mazatlan has managed to increase the supply of housing sites with the opening of more hotel rooms. However, it does not offer enough space tourists to take them to this destination by air ... In this administration, tourism investment has reached significant numbers, up more than 5 billion pesos a year, with tourism products such as Marina Mazatlan, Estrella de Mar, condominium towers and hotels like Riu and Crowne Plaza. However, it still has weaknesses, such as alerts that have been issued for not coming to Sinaloa in the international market like the United States and Canada, as a result of the violence that was recorded in the state.

"Since the last pandemic, violence or not we want this forever and grow uncontrollably over the media and the lack of flights we are taking from all competition, speaking of Mazatlan," said the entrepreneur Ernesto Coppel Kelly.

In the past six years, tourism in Sinaloa has allowed a growth of over 50 percent in tourist arrivals, said Secretary of Tourism in the state, Francisco de la Vega Aragón ... who said that currently, tourism 11.6 percent of gross domestic product in the state ... "In the period 2005 to 2010, but especially in the last three years, private enterprise has invested a cumulative total of more than 19 billion pesos in the construction of hotels, condominiums, marinas, golf courses, restaurants, shopping malls and other tourist facilities, "he added.

Berdegué Carlos Sacristán, vice president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Mazatlan, said that demand, Mazatlan is well, just no way to bring visitors to the limitations you have in the air connectivity.

The hotelier, which owns the Pueblo Bonito hotel chain, Ernesto Coppel Kelly, warned that the lack of air connectivity is a limiting factor to Mazatlan can pick up, out of the crisis that is now and compete against other destinations country.

Numeralia: Share of tourism in the state GDP 11.9%. Loss recorded in hotel occupancy -9.23%. Millions of tourist investment in the six years captured $ 19.000. Direct and indirect jobs generated by tourism 80.000. Visitors expected in the state this year 3'000, 000.

The Economic Recovery In Mexico Is a Reality

The economic recovery in Mexico is a reality
Economy - Monday, November 8, 2010 (18:15 hrs)

The country is considered the sixth most attractive location for investment by the United Nations: Bruno Ferrari (Photo: Cuartoscuro)

The FINANCIAL online

Mérida, November 8 .- With all optimism, Secretary of Economy, Bruno Ferrari García Alba, said again that economic recovery in Mexico is a reality that goes beyond any desire as maintained by the World Bank study completed recently.

He stressed that Mexico has been evaluated positively as a country of opportunity, which is on the road to recovery and has a great future in economic, hence the need to intensify efforts and be very cautious on achievements and work harder and greater enthusiasm.

It is not reason, he said, to leave things as they are, but to strive and achieve more and better achievements in the country's growth.

Thus, the federal official denied the diagnosis of the Center for Public Finance of the House of Representatives in warning that the country does not represent high growth expectations.

On the other hand, highlighted the report Doing Business 2010, developed and released recently by the World Bank which holds that Mexico advanced six positions in the display of ease of doing business, moving from site 41 to site 35, after a hard year for the country's capital.

During his stay in Merida to inaugurate the National Week for Small and Medium Enterprises Bruno Ferrari considered strong World Bank data for an agency that is not based on subjective.

However, Mexico is going very well and has a significant growth, history in the second quarter, recording 3.7 percent in gross domestic product, he said.

The country, he stressed, is now considered the sixth most attractive location for investment by the United Nations for its macroeconomic indicators, which are visible.

He noted that Mexico has significantly lower manufacturing costs, which is another strength for the nation, for the nations of the BRICs, Brazil, Russia, India and China, and other northern hemisphere countries.

The data and the results are as a country are obvious and are reflected in the macroeconomy and the position currently has over other nations, he noted. (With information from Yoisi Moguel / Finsat / TPC)

Ideal Formula To Revive Real Estate in Mexico

Ideal formula to revive real estate

07/11/2010 14:22

Mexico. Venture capital, bridge loans and mortgage financing in a single scheme represents an ideal mechanism to boost the housing industry.

The Achilles heel of the homebuilders in the wake of the international financial crisis was the drought of financing, which led to a severe contraction in the pace of housing construction and therefore a distortion between supply and demand.

To counter back the situation were created mechanisms that will stimulate a recovery in the pace of construction of new housing in the country.

Sociedad Hipotecaria Federal (SHF), the development bank of the housing developer, has launched a program called Capital and Debt Housing Construction (COVICADE), a scheme through which developers can derive from various institutions, both venture capital and bridge loans.

The mechanism addresses the lack of funding in the sector for pre-construction stages, such as land acquisition, infrastructure development, licensing and permits; mainly steps that should be funded with capital. While bridge loan for the building provides the necessary to construct.

UnbralCapital as capital fund, and Patrimonio, as a financial intermediary, were the first to operate this mechanism with approximately $2.5 billion pesos available on a first stage from first half of 2010.

This mechanism is perfected, since Infonavit, Alsis Funds and BBVA Bancomer, announced a strategic alliance to provide full funding and boost the supply of affordable housing. The estimated investment between them is of $21 billion pesos for a period of four years and will boost the construction and sale of 100,000 houses.

Alsis Funds provide venture capital to the developer, Bancomer banks offer mortgage bridge credit at the same housing promoter and Infonavit individual loans for the purchase of the final product, ensuring resources for the entire cycle of construction and housing market, mainly economic and of social interest, contributing to strengthening the industry.

We talk about is the commercial property market, which focuses on office, industrial parks, shopping centers, housing and hotels. That in any of the 30 funds that already exist in this area has been investing, but are now complemented by new initiatives from the resources available in the Afore.
