SCT Will Tender Punta Colonet in 2011

SCT will tender Punta Colonet in 2011

05/12/2010 13:05

For next year the Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) will have a record budget of $85 billion pesos to implement infrastructure projects among which is expected to re-launch the tender for the construction of the Port Punta Colonet, Ensenada, Baja California.

The original project was suspended in 2009 due to the global crisis experienced that year.

The original plan includes an international intermodal port in the town of Colonet, in an area located 140 kilometers south of Ensenada and one hour from the United States.

The extent of the logistics point is estimated at 30,000 hectares.
In sum, the development pretends to build the necessary infrastructure to address the containerized cargo traffic from Asia to America. It will have 700 kilometers of railway and strategic customs area to allow 'un-bonded' cargo.

It is estimated that once completed, will mobilize between 4 and 5 million containers annually.

Punta Colonet intended to be a port that would take advantage of the transpacific trade and would be linking with the U.S. east coast; would compete with the ports of Long Beach or Panama.

On the other hand, SCT announced that it is likely that by the end of this administration obtain investments for $71 billion pesos in the field.

Among other projects that are considered relevant for the coming year, the agency said it needs to expand the capacity for containers in the port of Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacan, it also provides for the construction of a railroad yard on the island of La Palma in the state.

In Manzanillo, Colima, the title of concession for the second container terminal will be granted and in Guaymas, Sonora, is being built a terminal for handling iron ore and a new cruise ship pier.
