British Airways strengthens English investment in Mexico

The sectors with the largest investment in Mexico are financial with firms such as HSBC and insurance companies, and the aircraft with British Airways, said Judith Macgregor, Britain's ambassador in Mexico.

The representative hinted at the possibility that by the end of this year investment will arrive from Great Britain to Mexico, without further details.

The return of British Airways, while confirming the interest of British companies to be present in Mexico will trigger the growth of tourism and recreational businesses that currently adds 300,000 visitors a year, only in the state of Quintana Roo.

British Airways will offer two flights per week from 2011 with connection to Cancun. It is known that tourists arouse interest to come to other places like Michoacan, Puerto Vallarta, Oaxaca, Guanajuato and Mexico City.

Mexico. The movement of containers last year to September amounted to 2’700,000 TEUs (boxes of 20 and 40 feet) above the figure achieved in 2008 for the same period.


The port sector shows considerable dynamism, and the proof is the average annual growth of containerized cargo between 1994 and 2009, of nearly 9.0%, according to a statement from the Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT).


The unit said that with global economic recovery, ports of Mexico exhibit encouraging signs of strengthening and to end this year are expected high historic figures in the movement of containers and number of cruise passengers.


'In Mexico, signs of recovery in the sector are very encouraging: the port movement (including oil) from January to September 2010 exceeded 12.8% against the recorded during the same period last year,' SCT added.


On the other hand, the number of cruise passengers between January and September 2010 was 34.6% higher than the one recorded last year, and almost 10% higher than the same period in 2008.


To the end of this year is expected to reach about 6’700,000, also a record specified the general coordinator of Ports and Merchant Marine.

After seven consecutive quarters in a recession, the construction industry manages to grow at an annual rate of 0.9%.

In September, particularly the construction industry reported a growth annual rate of 4.7%, the best monthly report since July 2008 and had three monthly progress (seasonally adjusted) in a row.

The National Housing Commission (CONAVI) noted that until the end of the third quarter saw a recovery in the replacement housing inventory by 8% over the same period last year, which is an important indicator of the rise in new home construction and that in turn, reflects the performance of the building.

The President of the Mexican Chamber of Construction Industry, Jose Eduardo Correa Abreu recently informed about the need for a greater boost for the sector and requested for 2011to increase considerably the budget for infrastructure and not to reduce it.

INEGI reported 5.8% growth of building in September.

The construction of civil engineering works or heavy work rose 2.4% in September and specialized work for the construction 7.7% in the same month according to the institute.
