See The Ulama Game Thru The Mazatlan Mexico Real estate

One of the most important and valuable traditions in Mexico is doubtless the “ULAMA” ballgame. Now days is only played in very few places in the country, but Sinaloa is one of them. According to the Historians this game is a heritage form the Aztecs and its name in Aztec is Ullamaliztli. Arqueological items found in the Olmeca zone tell us that this game exists since 1400 years before Christianity. But lately other probes have been found and show Ulama fields form 1,200 years before Christ. Its practice was related with spirituality and a warrior status.
Ulama game, was considered as the fight between two forces where only one of them will prevail, Day and Night, Courage and Cowardice, Life and Death.
The Spanish colonizers and priests considered this pagan game as brutal, savage, even diabolic; so in 1585 it was forbidden to play it again.
The game fields were known as “Tachtlis” but now they are called “Taste”. There are different type of game disciplines, with the forearm, with a mallet and the most spectacular with the hip; this last one is more popular because it was consider tougher but also more esthetic. The size of the “Taste” in Sinaloa is of 65 meters (213.25 feet) long and 4 meters (13.12 feet) wide and the ball weights 4 Kilograms (8.81 pounds) and has a diameter of 8 inches, the process of fabrication has keep a touch of mystery.
The main purpose of the game, is to keep the ball inside the field with out touching it with hands, only with the hip; and send it to the other side of the field to score. The hips are protected by dressing, leather and a belt known as “Chimalo”.
The south of Sinaloa is part of the border of what it was Mesoamérica and Aridoamérica, archeological items have been discovered in this area, that make us think that the groups that lived during the prehispanic era were nomads. The Ulama game that is played in the area now days it is the one played with the hip.
El Quelite, La Palma, Puerto de Canoas, El Chilillo, Siqueiros, El Vainillo, y Villa Unión, have their own team, and during holidays have competitions between them, this towns are just a few minutes from Mazatlan.
The Game in other areas of Mexico
The field was called by the Aztecs, Teotihuacanos and Toltecas Tlachtli, by the Mayans and Taladazi Pokyab or Pok-ta-pok in Zapoteca language; this game constitutes one of the most important elements of the religious and social structure in the prehispanic culture.
The very first descriptions from the game we have are from Bernal Dias del Castillo and the Franciscano priest Bernardino de Sahagún in chronicles of the conquest.
The size of the field was different, depending of the area where it was played; its rage was between 30 and 60 meters long and 9 to 14 meters wide, except for the one founded in Chichen Itza in Yucatán, that it happen to be the largest in MesoAmerica with 168 meters long and 70 meters wide. The field settings were between two walls and could be vertical or horizontal depending of the game or importance of the field.
Sinaloa is one of the very few States where Ulama is played, and proudly has shared it with the rest of the world.
Locals and Tourist can enjoy this game and be part of experience to travel in time to the past, only to witness the strength of the Aztecs, to see thru the game a culture that no longer exists but its foundation was solid enough to make a new civilization and kept important aspects of the pass.

Mexico Accesses The World' s Top Ten Tourism Worldwide

Mexico accesses the world's Top Ten Tourism Worldwide
Writer Real eStrategy 7 High impact October 18, 2010 Without a doubt, one of the great engines of the economy in Mexico has been and will be tourism. As part of our extensive experience, we have been linked to the tourism sector and its performance since a few years ago, both from the perspective of development and hotel operations and the financing side and beyond from the economic policy area. Our directors and associates are among the most important real estate associations in the field of tourism such as CNET and AMDETUR, allowing us to be updated, have a large network of business ties in this important segment, especially be engaged and active in the issues, opportunities and prospects of this industry critical to the housing sector and the economy.

On this occasion, let us address the issue of tourism in Mexico and how it compares with the global powers. Undoubtedly, as we remember 2009 was a year of all known as one of the worst worldwide to both Mexico and the industry in general. You only have to mention that from 2008 to 2009, the global tourism industry lost nearly 40 million tourists passing from 919 million tourists (MDT) at the end of 2008 to 880 in 2009 MDT. The countries that presented a decrease of more tourists France and Spain were significantly losing each 5 MDT, followed by U.S. with a loss of 3 MDT, but these 3 countries manage to remain as the first 3 places in world tourism leaders.

According to the World Tourism Organization, France is the country that receives more tourists per year, followed by USA, Spain, China and Italy. Mexico occupies and maintains the tenth position and calls us the attention that is the only Latin American country that is part of the world's Top Ten.

In recent times we have been hearing the goal of wanting to advance in the Top Ten and get to be in the 5 countries with the highest number of annual tourist visits. In our opinion, we still difficult for Mexico to access these sites at least in the short and medium term. Potential exists, but internally there are many issues we should still be able to handle and able to solve soon. For example among those immediately address critical problems without a doubt, the most important is national security. We should be able to ensure the integrity and security of tourists, without it and a clean permeate the country, we risk losing even more in this prestigious global Top. Infrastructure and competitiveness of the country are other important issues on the agenda to address national priorities we, besides not neglect what we have done is to care properly as macroeconomic conditions and public finances, which must continue to be enough attractive to capture the direct and indirect foreign investment into the country more significant.

The annexed table shows the Top Ten of attracting tourists worldwide comparing the figure for 2008 against 2009. We note that the first 6 countries have retained the same position but from the 7th place countries observe movements of one year against another, which opens a large window of opportunity to access in the medium term at No. 7, would mean that our real goal would be to attract a flow year 30 to 35 MDT, a figure which we consider quite affordable, as long as they join efforts between governments at all levels and Entrepreneurs from all branches of the tourism industry and everything is taken very seriously and settle in the national agendas of the resolution axis systems to solve are po order of importance and impact: I) Security; II) Competitiveness III) infrastructure; IV) Brand Promotion Mexico integral and each of the destinations; V) incentives to foreign investment.

MAZATLAN .- At least 40 percent of the conclusion of the Supervía Matamoros Mazatlán, Sinaloa and Durango are the two states that are attracting more investment and jobs in the country.
The stretch of highway for more investment in the country, in the order of 18 billion pesos is scheduled to be completed in less than a year and a half and therefore investors Korean, German, Japanese, Chinese and Chileans are already settled in Durango, because they anticipate that the road will have a competitive advantage for the oversea axis that will connect Asia and Europe.
Businessmen from both states said they will be an important door with a big impact on the economy of Sinaloa and Durango and of course will bring many benefits to the rest of the country.
"It is the biggest investment of 18 billion pesos to open the door to the Mexican Pacific, the mountain pass the goods circulated prevented from Mazatlan to Altamira, because it was so long and so hard to pass because the road was inaccessible. "
Hence, the generation of investment and jobs will be in Mexican territory and the states to be more affected are those that have to be largely prepared as Sinaloa and Durango, as the next entry to the port of Mazatlan.
The Secretary for Economic Development in Durango, Juan Francisco Gutierrez, said there is no risk that the work stops with increases of 60 percent, because there is a trust investment protection.
"They know they opened a trust for any reason to cancel the investment and not to transfer to other work because it is a national priority, because in many resource projects, sometimes complicated by the lack of liquidity."
He stressed that it will be the most important issue in the country for investment in roads because it is the gateway to the Pacific and both states have the opportunity to have this transoceanic axis linking the Pacific and Asia and Europe.
"I think the connection is being done, where and progress and is beyond the 60 percent of the construction of road works, provide an opportunity for all states because it is a matter only of Sinaloa and Durango, Coahuila , Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, which is crossed by the shaft, but is the most important connection we have with all riders in the world. "
Be a work of national impact and global impact beyond where companies now understand that the logistics are handled in previous years for business efficiency was very relevant was the labor and now to be more competitive implies have a high connectivity, which is going to take the big axis oceanic.

The Tourist Industry Recover Real Estate Sales in 2011

The tourist industry recover real estate sales in 2011

07/09/2010 09:20

The property market in Mexico registered a slowdown in their businesses to have a slight increase of 1% in the first half of 2010 compared with the same period in 2009.

Juan Ignacio Rodríguez, VP of Business Development for Mexico and Central America of the RCI tourism firm, says there are signs showing the sector already hit bottom in the crisis and are beginning to show a recovery.

During the launch of the V edition of Luxury Markets Symposium, the manager indicated that where it exists is in investment growth, and that for this year an amount of $ 500 million while in 2009 was less than 250 million dollars.

Due to the conditions set out the sector expects growth in tourist housing offer to attract a large volume of buyers during 2011 and thus initiated the revival of the acquisition of such property.

The destinations that will attract more resources, both domestic and foreign, will be the Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Baja California Norte and Sinaloa.

Currently the market value of this sector is 3 thousand 600 million dollars, but it is expected that by the end of the year reached U.S. $ 5 billion.

About possible involvement by the climate of violence experienced, Ignacio Rodriguez said "we know we have a security problem, but is very focused on non-tourist areas."

Mexico Still Top Choice for U:S: Second Home owners

Mexico Still Top Choice for U.S. Second Home Owners
Posted in Real Estate on August 13, 2010 by Kevin Brass

Despite the constant headlines about drug-related violence, Mexico remains the preferred destination for U.S. second home buyers, according to a new study.

Mexico was twice as popular as Central and South America, according to the 2010 Second Home Trend Report issued by North Carolina-based research firm E360, which surveyed existing second home owners.

“It’s shocking to me that Mexico still came in number one, even with the negative press,” said Chad Martin, global research analyst for E360.

Forty-five percent of the 612 respondents said they believe now is a good time to buy. Of those that were still wary, 79 percent indicated they would be “likely or very likely to purchase in the next two years.”

“That’s extremely significant,” Martin said. “There are a lot of existing second home owners on the sidelines.”

Existing second home owners offer a different perspective on the market than typical high net worth consumers, Martin says.

“If they already have a second home, they already have learning under their belts,” Martin said. “I feel like we’re surveying a more savvy second home market.”

The survey found that 46 percent of the respondents were motivated by “lifestyle and vacation attributes” to buy second homes, while 41 percent pointed to purchases as an investment. Only 11 percent said they were looking to buy for retirement purposes.

A home with a water view remains the biggest clincher for closing a sale, the survey found. Elements like spas and medical facilities, although increasingly popular, were less likely to close a deal. And while the market may be more eco-conscious, “green-based second homes did not show the high appeal translating into a purchase motivation,” Martin said.

In a similar fashion, golf is still popular, but the sport “has not clearly shown itself as primary appealing attribute as it translates to real estate buyers when compared to other second home attributes,” Martin said.

Mexico Real Estate: Are Safety Concerns Fact or Fiction?

Mexico's real estate market and tourism industry have been hard hit by the global recession, concerns of drug violence and the swine flu. Are the safety concerns legitimate, or a myth reinforced by the media? Glynna Prentice from International Living seeks to debunk some of the misconceptions on safety in Mexico.

Mazatlan, MexicoPart of my daily routine here in Campeche, where I live in the Yucatán Peninsula, is to stroll to the historic center and chat with friends who own shops on the main street. I usually go in the late afternoon when the air is cooler and long shadows stretch across the cobbled streets and colonial buildings. It’s a nice walk, and very peaceful.

I used to pass lots of tourists along the way, but I don’t anymore. These days my friends mostly talk about how tourism is down, and with it their sales.

Tourism all over Mexico has slowed to a trickle this year. Part of this is due to the global recession, which has left people with less money to spend on travel. But mostly it’s due to bad press, to fears of swine flu and of drug violence. And it’s a shame, because it’s both inaccurate and undeserved.

It’s doubly a shame because those fears are making folks miss out on some exceptional bargains. Right now, you can get big savings on Mexico travel deals—discounts on hotel stays, air fares, restaurants and the like—to entice tourists back. The tourists who come all have a great time.

They find Mexico as beautiful and exciting as ever, and they marvel at the huge gap between what the media has told them and the reality they find.

So, for all of you who haven’t been lucky enough to see the truth first-hand, I’d like to do a little myth-busting.

Myth #1: You’ll Catch the Swine Flu in Mexico

Actually, you can catch the swine flu anyplace, because it’s spread all over the world. In June, the World Health Organization declared the swine flu—virus H1N1—a pandemic. In other words, it’s pretty much everyplace. In fact, these days you probably have a better chance of catching it in the U.S. than in Mexico, because there have been more confirmed cases in the U.S.

H1N1 may not even have begun in Mexico. But Mexican health officials first identified it. And Mexico, being a good global citizen, blew the whistle. Sadly, that decision has cost Mexico billions in tourist dollars.

Here’s the situation now: As noted, the WHO declared H1N1 a pandemic in June. Note that this doesn’t mean the disease has gotten more dangerous. The term pandemic just refers to how widely it’s spread.

Countries that had warned against travel to Mexico have largely lifted those bans. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, for instance, have removed their travel warning for Mexico and replaced it with a general global warning. Airlines that had canceled flights to Mexico when the flu first appeared have begun resuming their schedules.

The fall flu season has begun and, as expected, new cases of H1N1 are showing up in both the U.S. and Mexico. Vaccines are available in the U.S. already, and will be in Mexico by December (huge demand for the vaccine has slowed down delivery). In the meantime, Mexico’s public health department—which takes its job seriously—has been educating the public on how to cut down the spread of infection, like washing your hands often or staying home if you’re sick. (These simple measures are very effective, actually.) In addition, businesses like restaurants often hand out antiseptic hand gel to customers to make sure folks follow proper hygiene procedures. Mexico’s health officials also note that, from what they’ve seen so far, H1N1 is proving no more dangerous than the normal flu.

So chances are slim that you’ll catch the flu if you come to Mexico. But if you do, don’t worry. Mexico’s hospitals and doctors are first-rate, and they’ve all been prepped on this strain of flu.

Myth #2: Mexico is Violent

Many people already see through the media hype and take what they read and hear with a grain of salt. They realize that violence in border towns and drug areas doesn’t affect safety in places that are hundreds of miles away. To do so, as the media does, is like condemning Ohio for violence in Detroit.

But because the media keeps harping on it, we’ll say it again….

Only parts of Mexico are violent. These are the border areas, Mexico City, and a few other drug-related areas that have always been dicey. In other words, the usual suspects. We don’t recommend these areas.

Most of Mexico is still safe. The places we recommend—such as San Miguel de Allende, Ajijic, Puerto Vallarta and others—are probably safer than where you live now. Certainly Campeche is safer than anyplace I’ve ever lived before.

I’ve walked around cities all over Mexico by day and by night, and I’ve always felt safe. I take normal, sensible precautions, but otherwise I don’t worry. Other expats I’ve spoken with tell me the same thing. Random violence of the kind we know from the U.S.—muggings, for instance—is extremely rare here. It’s just not something you worry about. And the drug war? Unless you’re dealing or buying, you’re likely safe.

Reality: Mexico is Still as Great a Destination as it Always Was

Fundamentally, Mexico hasn’t changed. It’s still beautiful, exotic, and welcoming…and offering a high quality of life at a fraction of what you pay north of the border.

And traveling to Mexico now is a better bargain than ever, thanks to all the special offers. So do yourself a favor and take advantage of them. Because—like the media frenzy over the swine flu—they won’t last forever.

Although its fortunes are closely linked with the US, Mexico's real estate mostly held its own during the latest US market crash due to supply and demand balance. Property bargains in Mexico are attracting buyers who have invested nearly $300 million in a Prudential fund for industrial real estate, but experts warn that prices could fall further or remain suppressed. See the following article from Property Wire for more on this.

The exposure of Mexico’s economy to trade with the US means that the recovery through 2014 is likely to be fragile. ‘In particular, we see no sign of an upturn in investment. Nor do we see evidence of a sustainable recovery in consumer spending. The risks are to the downside,’ it says.

Nevertheless, the various protagonists in Mexico’s diverse markets for commercial real estate have lived with the challenges of fluctuating growth in the US and changing perceptions of risk within Mexico for a long time. ‘Consequently, our base case is that yields will remain broadly unchanged over the next five years or so. However, there is a risk that yields slip sharply, in at least one of the sub sectors or cities for which we have data, as a result of a slide in rents relative to capital values,’ it adds.

The report, the latest edition of a new series of industry reports published by BMI that seeks to identify the key dynamics of the real estate sectors of 44 countries around the world, looks at both the long and the short term prospects.

More investors from the US are looking at property in Mexico as prices are lower. Experts are still not certain if prices have bottomed out yet, and some warn that the low prices will just stay that way for quite some time.

For Karla Peña , an analyst at Actinver Casa de Bolsa, the increase in revenues of this company has not been reflected in their flows due to the sharp increase in cost.
